Help Maintain Organic Food Standards

The Organic Consumers Association (OCA) needs your immediate help to stop Congress and the Administration from seriously degrading organic standards. After 35 years of hard work, the U.S. organic community has built up a multi-billion dollar alternative to industrial agriculture, based upon strict organic standards and organic community control over modification to these standards.
Now, large corporations such as Kraft & Dean Foods--aided and abetted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), are moving to lower organic standards by allowing a Bush appointee to create a list of synthetic ingredients that would be allowed organic production.

Demand Accessible & Verifiable Elections

Dale Kildee is a Co-sponsor of HR550 (cheers), but HR3910 will pervert the system.  Sign the petition put out by Vote Trust USA that will be delivered to Committee members (Candice Miller and Vernon Ehlers are on the Committee, and are NOT co-sponsors of 550) demanding that they take HR 3910 off the table and do the people's business by acting on HR 550.
Link to new petition is here:

Fire Tom Delay

House Republican Majority Leader Rep. Tom DeLay has a pattern of repeated legal and ethical scandals. Yet he remains in one of the most important positions in our government—deciding what legislation Congress considers. In response, MoveOn members have been running ads against seven members of Congress who come from vulnerable districts and fundraise with DeLay’s help, topped out the “Fire Tom DeLay” petition at more than 480,334 signers, organized 195 events, attended by thousands, to deliver these signatures to Republican members of Congress and others

Demand Karl Rove's Resignation
Sign on to a letter to the President demanding Karl Rove's resignation for involvement in the leaking of a CIA officer's name to the press. When the scandal first broke, White House spokesman, Scott McClellan, said “If anyone in this Administration was involved in it, they would no longer be in this Administration.” (9/29/03, White House press briefing). What the President does now, in light of Karl Rove’s involvement will speak volumes.
Demand an Audit in Iraq
Sign on to a petition demanding an Audit in Iraq. To date $9
billions dollars (and counting) have disappeared or been wasted while Republicans in Congress have done nothing to get to the bottom of this horribly worsening problem. Join Congresswoman Louise Slaughter's call for an Audit in Iraq by creating a Truman Commission that would monitor and investigate every penny being spent there.
Help Reform Election Laws in Ohio
Sign up to volunteer to help an Ohio group get election reform proposals on the ballot. Send the website link to friends and family (registered Ohio voters) in Ohio to sign. If this can happen in Ohio, it can spread across the country and we won't have to depend on our legislators to enact fair election laws.
Support Truth Telling Media

The Star Tribune in Minnesota has one of the toughest editorial boards in the country. They have been early critics of the Bush fiasco. They came out in support of Richard Durbin and his comments about torture and were one of the early papers reporting on the Downing Street memo and demanding answers in their editorials. They are under attack by right wing-nuts now and are losing subscribers and possibly advertisers. Subscribe to the paper and show your support for media that reports the news.

Join the Virtual March on Washington to Stop Global Warming
This group is marching across America for one year, via the internet, to bring everyone together in one loud clear voice of concern to urge our leaders to address global warming now. Please join the march and make your voice heard too.
Help Reduce Canadian Trash Imported Into Michigan

Every year, Canada and other states send more and more trash into our beautiful state: 6 million tons in 2004. More than 400 trash trucks come into Michigan from Canada every day. Imported trash harms our land and our water, destroys the quality of life in our neighborhoods, crumbles our roads, strains our public safety resources and threatens our health.

Michigan House Democrats have a plan to stop the trash: A $7.50-per-ton dumping charge, tougher enforcement, tougher penalties and a ban on expanding landfills.

Tell Big Oil - Don't Drill in the Arctic

Through a back room deal, Congress has included language into the annual budget that allows for drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. However, there is still another way to protect the Arctic from drilling -- by pledging to boycott any oil company that drills in the Arctic.

Sign on as a Citizen Co-Sponsor of the Student Privacy Protection Act
Where children are concerned, it's time to make it a family decision (not a federal mandate) to release our home phone numbers and home addresses to military recruiters. US Representative Mike Honda’s Student Privacy Protection Act does just that. It makes a simple change to No Child Left Behind ensuring schools release private information to military recruiters only if families request it, rather than the other way around.

Don't Support Mid East Oil -Buy Your Gas at Citgo
Looking for an easy way to protest Bush foreign policy week after week? And an easy way to alleviate global poverty? Buy your gas at Citgo. Of the top oil producing countries in the world, only one is a democracy with a president who was elected on a platform of using his nation's oil revenue to benefit the poor. The country is Venezuela. The President is Hugo Chavez. Call him "the Anti-Bush."
Boycott Wal-Mart & Sam's Club
Wal-Mart is the largest private employer in the world with over $10 billion in profits. Yet, Wal-Mart lowers our wages, ships our jobs overseas, and shifts their health care costs onto American taxpayers. We believe it's time for Wal-Mart to Wake Up.
Boycott Ice Mountain Water
Ice Mountain Spring Water is pumping around 8,000 gallons per hour of Michigan water , every hour, every day — taking billions of dollars in corporate profit from water that belongs to the people of Michigan. We think this is wrong! We think Michigan water should not become the private property of a Swiss owned water mining factory.
Boycott Pharmacies That Allow Pharmacists to Refuse to Dispense Contraception
Pharmacists have a duty to dispense drugs or devices lawfully prescribed by a physician. This Planned Parenthood site lists those pharmacies that allow their pharmacists to refuse to dispense contraception, as well as those pharmacies that have a policy that prevents their pharmacists from doing so.
